Gathering 2.0 was presented at the 2023 CODA Paper Art Biennale as a reconfiguration of a work originally commissioned by the Crafts Council for Collect at Somerset House. Developed in the aftermath of prolonged isolation, the installation reflects on collective presence — how individual gestures assemble into shared physical experience. The challenge was to adapt the work’s scale and rhythm to a new architectural context while retaining its sense of density and flow.
A single abstract folded unit was developed through hand pinching and gathering, combined with machine scoring, then multiplied into a field of 125 elements. Suspended on stainless steel cables and carbon fibre rods, the installation formed a shimmering wall that responded to movement and light. Visitors encountered the work bodily, moving alongside it as its surface subtly shifted — a quiet celebration of physical proximity, material labour, and communal space.
