Dadirri

Sleaford, 2024

Client: QUEST

Materials: Hand Folded Tyvek

Dadirri was presented in 2024 as part of Paper Works at The Hub, Sleaford, commissioned by QEST. The installation draws its name from the Aboriginal concept of dadirri — a practice of deep listening, stillness, and attentive presence. The challenge was to translate an internal, meditative state into a physical environment without spectacle.

Fung+Bedford conceived the work as an origami forest: eighteen Tyvek panels arranged in pairs and suspended to form a quiet spatial rhythm. Lightweight yet resilient, the material allowed scale without heaviness, creating a soft, diffused field of vertical forms. Visitors moved slowly through the installation, their pace and proximity shaping the experience. Rather than directing attention outward, the work invited inward reflection — a moment of pause, breath, and reconnection, echoing the principles of forest bathing through folded form and gentle spatial immersion.
