Paper Migrations

London, 2026

Client: Smithson

Materials: Tyvek and aluminium rod, gold clear-coat finish

Paper Migration takes flight from Smythson's own watermark: the feather. Two large-scale, twisting curved forms — suggestive of feather and propeller alike — form an installation suspended above the store's central retail space, reflecting its fit-out architecture. A fine aluminium rod spine, finished in gold clear coat over Tyvek, shapes and supports the piece, catching the light and referencing Smythson's gilded-edged notebooks and its heritage as inventor of the travel diary.

The central sculpture gathers folded paper origami forms, each hand-folded by us from repeated “V” patterns echoing the opening spine of a Smythson diary, into one flowing, airborne, immersive work of art. Beneath it, visitors catch pages turning, a flock in migration, and the Featherweight logo — leather and bespoke craft transformed into a mindful, spatial expression of travel, imagination and writing in motion.
