Rather excitingly we have been invited to take part in Design Nation's Marks and Tools project which will form part of London Craft Week.
Now in its third year, London Craft Week and gathers makers and designers together to showcase the very best of international and British creativity and craftsmanship. With over 250 events planned across the city the event shines the spotllght on makers who combine their talents and aesthetic with new materials in inventive ways.
The Marks and Tools exhibition is specifically themed around the marks and tools of the maker and how these translate into different disciplines.
Our plans for the Marks and Tools show are, quite naturally now for us, on the large scale side. We've been given some amazing space to share at London's Oxo Tower Gallery and are planning some architectural origami scaled panels. A big project in itself but to challenge ourselves further, and deliver something new for visitors, we're pleating and folding in flocked Tyvek.
Flocking, we have learned, is not forgiving. Its delicate fibres are painfully honest when it comes to folding and manipulating, truthfully revealing each line and score our tools make. Which, as you can imagine, has brought its own challenges when transporting and installing metres of folded material. However, its very nature has given us an immediate and deliberate connection to the Marks and Tools theme - so we're in working in suspense, as well as being pretty excited, to reveal how it all comes together for the show.
London Craft Week runs from the 3-7 May and you can find us at Oxo Tower from the 4-7th. We're working alongside many great designers and makers from the Design Nation family and the exciting event is completely free to visit. Plus, you can see Margo Selby, Michael Ruh and Hannah Tounsend in conversation during the exhibition which you can get tickets to here.
