Enso

London, 2026

Client: Heal’s

Materials: Integrated LED light source with a hand-folded Tyvek, shade, metal conical base

An invitation to Heal's Annual Designer Dinner, through our Sora pendant already on their shelves, set Enso in motion: a brief for a smaller, more affordable origami light, developed with lighting manufacturer Illuminati. After a studio visit and a run of concepts, Heal's chose a table lamp, its compact form keeping the retail price down and distilling our large-scale origami practice into a single piece. The light source and paper shade, hand-folded by us, fuse into one indistinguishable form, set on a bespoke metal cone whose architecture we refined with Illuminati on manufacture and with Heal's on colour temperature and finish.

We named it Enso, for ensō (円相) — the Zen circle drawn in a single, uninhibited brushstroke, a meditative practice holding mind and spirit in one moment. Closed, it is perfection and balance; left open, it is wabi-sabi, the beauty of imperfection and the grace of change. Enso holds that same mindful space — mu, the void — casting an immersive pool of light as a small work of art for everyday ritual.

“I found it a really interesting and rewarding process to work with Angela Fung and Ashley Bedford. It was fascinating to visit their studio and see the thought processes come to life through a series of meetings with them and the manufacturer of the lamp. Together we have created something really unique and I was so proud when Heal's awarded the pair the Design Innovation award last year.”
