Materials: Fedrigoni Paper, Stainless Steel Cables, Fixings
Commissioned to celebrate the summer bloom of the sunflower (Himawari), this installation reflects Onitsuka Tiger’s ethos of innovation grounded in tradition. Fung+Bedford translated the brand’s values into a large-scale canopy that balances heritage and experimentation.
Drawing on traditional origami techniques alongside newly invented folds, the team developed a structural language that allowed individual units to assemble into a luminous, sunflower-inspired canopy. The challenge lay in scaling the delicate paper forms without losing precision or material integrity, creating an immersive overhead landscape.
Installed as a suspended ceiling, the canopy animated the retail space with light, shadow, and curvature. Visitors moved beneath, encountering shifting geometries and playful patterns — an experience of craft, surprise, and seasonal celebration that physically embodied the brand’s identity.
