Elements

Port Ellen, 2023

Client: Gemini Whiskey (Diageo), Heart & Feints

Materials: Hand-Folded Fedrigoni FSC Paper, Bronze Foil, Champagne Foil

Elements began as a meditation on duality — how two expressions can emerge from a shared origin. Commissioned by Diageo via Heart & Feints to accompany the launch of Gemini Whiskey, the work interprets the whisky’s twin casks through form, light and material.

Nearly 700 individually hand-folded units form a parametric wave, created by subtly adjusting mountain and valley folds, aperture sizes and heights. Lighter white and cream papers represent the purity and clarity of the Original, while deeper silvers and platinums embody the richer, fuller Remnant. Bronze foil accents introduce warmth, fruit and gentle smoke; champagne foils echo salt, creaminess and brightness.

Installed as a wall sculpture, Elements invites slow looking. As viewers hold the amber liquid, rippling shadows and dappled light mirror the whisky’s movement in the glass. The work offers a calm, sensory space — where sight, touch and scent align — transforming tasting into a moment of quiet immersion and reflection.
